Johannisstraße offers the perfect residential location in Berlin-Mitte: with all the advantages of an extremely central location, it is nevertheless a decidedly quiet side street with little traffic. Within walking distance, in addition to Oranienburger Straße and Alexanderplatz, are important cultural institutions of the city, such as the Museum Island, the Berlin Ensemble and the German Theater. In the immediate vicinity, an exciting architectural kaleidoscope is currently being created by international offices such as Herzog de Meuron, David Chipperfield and Brandlhuber+. In the formerly architecturally and urbanistically rather undeveloped area, the project acted as an engine for structural innovation. Jürgen Mayer H's original reinterpretation of the Berlin townhouse emerged from a competition that included Kuehn Malvezzi and Max Dudler. Like a dress, Jürgen Mayer H has thrown a curved form of vertical aluminum slats over the house, transforming it into a sculpture. The slats of computer-generated shapes simultaneously provide a pleasant filter: they protect against glimpses and direct midday sun, but allow a maximum of daylight into the interior.
